Paracord is one of the most versatile cords on the planet. It’s high-tech materials and construction enables it to be lightweight, strong, and compact. With an incredible 550 lb tensile strength, paracord can easily perform tasks and jobs that other similar cords cannot. One of the most important design features of paracord is the 7 inner strands of core. By pulling out the internal strands you can turn 50ft into hundreds of feet of usable cordage. All these features make it the perfect rope to daily carry, whether it’s in your backpack, vehicle, garage, or in an apparel item.

With a proven track record dating back to WW2, paracord has made a well-deserved name for itself as being one of the best cords ever made. Almost exactly what I was looking for.

For several years I bought all my paracord at a local military surplus store. A couple of years ago they went out of business. Since then I’ve been able to find most colors and patterns I like from various other sources. But the dark green they had was impossible to find a replacement for. I even ordered samples of every green color sold by one of the big online stores. No luck.

I posted on a local community page asking if anyone knew the owners to ask them where they sourced their cord. A couple of people knew the owners and asked on my behalf, but they couldn’t remember! One of the comments on the post suggested Atwood. So I looked them up and ordered 100 feet of emerald green. The color was very close to the few pieces I have left from earlier purchases. So close, the difference could easily be due to being from different dye lots.

The only thing I wish were different is that Atwood would sell samples. I’d like a look at several other colors and patterns, but not at 100 feet for each one. I’d buy 100 feet if I liked the color/pattern, but I’m not willing to spend the cash to find out.
